Inappropriate behavior in the workplace

Coach Thompson (my manager at the athletic center equipment room where I work): "I don't care if they're goddamn super models! If they don't show you an ID they can't check out your balls. Period."

to good not to share, too mean to share it on fb

So I stayed up until 0130 studying. and if you think that's crazy (for me) well what's crazier is I'm getting up at 0530 to work out with my work out buddy. with perfect timing, Shirley came back around 0130 drunk off her ass with Kornowoski, also drunk off his ass after they went to a party to leave me be to study. Better yet, shirley kept me up until 0230, being all drunk and saying various phrases similar to "I really, really like you" without mentioning notorious L word. what's better still is that as soon as i get shirley to quiet down and let me be, and as soon as i start to fall asleep, jackass, passed out on the floor the entire time, starts to crawl to the bathroom and starts throwing up - on the carpet (just a little) and then on the tile in the bathroom (a little more) and then finally gets the the toilet and lets it all out. Best of all, he was too drunk to notice the toilet seat was down. guess who spent 0230 till 0330 cleaning up that mess (of chicken noodle soup and vodka)? this guy. who has to now get up in 2 hours to work out, and then memorize a 10 week course that we took in 6 weeks by friday. and the awesome backstory to this is that kornowoski has done nothing all week but play video games, while i workout, study, and go to class. I feel like he should be taking care of me...

Fun Times in Claremont

Nothing like incredible heat and two daily doses of serious bodily harm to make you feel special.  You gotta love camp.

My first real bust

So my fellow ranger Tim and I went to the sand caves today to look for trespassers.  The sand caves are beautiful and an awesome place to hike, but they are dangerous and the ecosystem there is extremely fragile.  Also, their most common visitors are teenagers looking to drink, get high, and grafiti in a secluded place.  As a result, they are off limits to the public.  Of course, that only inspires more people to try to climb up to them.  So Tim and I went up there today to flush any kids out and establish our presence there.  Sure enough, while taking a break about halfway up the illegal trail, we encountered two teenagers each with a sixpack of miller light.  We politely informed them that they were illegally trespassing, and after a quick "sorry bro" they turned around and fled back the way they had come.  Tim and I then continued up the the caves.  There was no one there, but Tim was sure that on a Friday afternoon there would be more visitors so we settled down at the top of the cliff where we could see all the illegal trails and waited.  Sure enough, after a few minutes passed by we heard bushes rustling behind us near the "backway" to the sand caves.  Tim and I grabbed our pruning shears and held them menacingly as we crept towards the noise so we wouldn't scare them away before we could get close enough to really screw with them.  We heard them getting closer and closer and on Tim's signal we both stepped out from behind a bend in the trail.  We were almost as surprised as the kids were because they were the same kids we had just kicked out ten minutes ago.  Everybody just kind of stood there for a minute and then, simultaneously, Tim stepped up and put a hand on the first kid's shoulder and the second kid took off like a deer back down the trail.  We're technically not allowed to restrain anyone or even give them a fine, but Tim did one of the funniest things I've ever seen.  He told the first kid to put down his beer and sit down in the middle of the trail.  Then he pulled out his radio and quickly clicked and released the talk button so that it would beep.  This way, the kid (and for a second me) would think he was actually talking to someone when in reality he was talking to a turned off radio.  Then Tim said "Sheriff dispatch district four, we have two trespassers in the San Elijo Lagoon.  Both are male, approximately 17 years old.  One is wearing a black striped shirt and a black hat, the other is wearing a white shirt and a green hat.  The second one is currently fleeing the scene, probably headed towards Rios.  I have the first one restrained.  Please send a couple of squad cars to pursue and arrest."  Then he clicked the radio button again as if he were ending his transmission.  At this point the kid sitting in the dirt at Tim's feet looks like he's about to piss himself and Tim is trying valiantly not to laugh.  Then he turns to me and says "Did you happen to bring zip ties?".  And as he's turning back to the kid the kid rolls over, hops up, and takes off at a dead sprint down the side of the hill, not even on the trail.  We watched gleefully as he ran right through a grove of poison oak all the way down to the trail and turned left.  Then Tim yelled "the sheriff is over there, don't go left!" and the kid skidded to a halt and ran back the other way, presumably the direction opposite that of his parked car.
So, after that successful prank we were rewarded with a sixpack of beer ... which we had to turn over to the county :(

There's a new sheriff in town

Actually I'm just a ranger.  Well, technically I'm just a park attendant.  But to the untrained eye I look like a ranger.  Anyway, I still get to walk around and give people pieces of paper with "WARNING" written at the top.  We like to call them citations even though their recipients are under no obligation to pay a fine, stay out of the lagoon, or respond to them in any way.  While I'm not being menacing out on the trails, I spend most of my time feeding poisonous animals, cleaning bathrooms, and explaining to tiny children that lizards are not "land-fish" and that I don't actually carry a gun or any weapon other than the occasional pair of pruning shears.  Other than the fact that I work Friday through Monday from 7:00AM to 5:30PM this job is awesome.

Memorial Day Morning

the night before memorial day monday. so early morning. like 0dark30 morning, the party was still raging. in celebration of my friends bday we got cake and tons of alcohol. and we've still got 2 5L things of wine, 4 32oz. beers, and 2 30 racks, and a good amount of bottled stuff in the fridge. poor timing with finals coming up. but someones gotta finish it. also my jackass friend punched the window and broke it, and bled everywhere... the poor managers

My roommate

Is a pure 100% untainted jackass. a few weeks ago he left the stove on once while boiling water. which was fine, it only slightly scorched the MY pot. but he did it again today. with pasta in the pot. and him and i left for drill. leaving James, the smarter of my 2 roommates sleeping in our apartment, whose smoke alarm does not work btw cuz the unnamed jackass disabled that. so james wakes up with an apartment full of smoke, no alarm going off, a pot of pasta on fire. list of things ruined: 2 couches 2 speakers 1 pot 1 plate 1 bowl 1 cup i thought people in college were intelligent. i thought i was unintelligent! im worried.

10 May 2012

Thrift store

check fb for a great find. and i got a tommy bahama shirt for 12 bucks and then went to Men's warehouse for some super fancy clothes. mom's gonna be sad she can't send me off to a formal looking all handsome (a sorority's formal this sunday, got myself invited after 1 meeting with this girl, very cute, and Chinese! mother would be super proud). prepare for pics later next week.

Finals

Does anyone else think it's kind of backwards that you have to take finals at the end of the year when you're burned out and tired of school?  They wouldn't be nearly as frustrating if I took them at the beginning of the year when I'm fresh.

Walk of glory.

On monday, I was doing the quarterly counseling with my major. the army's major happens to walk in and say "We need three-four guys for as dates this friday." My maj says "well faix here is a good guy, and he can grab 3 others for you." and SSgt proceeds to threaten me that if im not on my best behavior i'll die and that he will be at the army ball watching us. empty threats. Friday, myself, Amis (who unfortunately was not set up with a date), and 3 of the cutest freshmen i could find rendezvoused at the assembly area, then head out to the army ball with mints in hand in our sexy chokers. our orders from the army major were to talk to the girls and dance. and that we did. amongst the dark army uniforms, 5 guys in chokers really stands out, it was a wonderful thing. after the wonderful meal, the dancing started. we carried out our orders in good faith and for a while, it was us 5 NROTC guys dancing, alone and unafraid. after 10 min the army slowly warmed up the guys dominating their party and it got going good. then we went to an army guys apartment south of wilsire and in the morning i had to walk across westwod. it took the same amount of time for ryan to drive up from irvine and then i gave him a tour of UCLA with his family and we got bbq chicken for lunch. end. o-chem time can't waste any more precious seconds.

My friend and suitemate Alex sawed off the end of his finger yesterday.  Apparently he missed the bone and only removed the fleshy part so I guess it's not that cool.  But still, I heard the blood splatter was awesome!

Keenan: Its like taking off your shirt for a shower only you will not take a shower

1st weekend of spring quarter

was awesome.
friday night- had a younger midn wetdown for a recently graduated person
saturday night - had a bigger better more chicks involved party with older people for the same graduated person. with wine, sake, tequila, beer, and champagne all being consumed and even more great unspoken adventures.

Extra Spring Ball

Because free time is for the soft.

Also, my friend Nick (the starting strong safety) won't be able to practice all spring.  Why?  Because he drunkenly challenged my friend Peter (tight end) to a fight where each person was wearing one MMA glove.  Of course, he got his ass beat by the bigger, more athletic Peter.  Attempting to avoid being killed he started backing up, stepped back awkwardly on some stairs, and broke his foot.

Physical Encounter (Nope, not as dirty as you think it is)

I was chilling outside of office hours waiting for my professor and one of the grad students who ta-ed my physics class last quarter saw me and told me to come into his office so he could help me. We solved my problem and then I asked him what he was working on and got a free 30 minute mini-lecture on particle physics. He was telling me about bosons and fermions and how physicists named different quarks: strange, beauty, truth, and charm. It didn't really understand it, but it was some pretty cool shit.

04 March 2012

SCIDM

Southern california invitational drill meet

this year it was held at northrop grumman's facilities. we set up in a giant parking lot and drilled! awesome. basically the USC airforce ROTC hosts this and tons of chair force ROTC units come and a lot of different JROTC units come, navy and AF.

so we go and apparently had to be there for the opening ceremony at 0800 but it dumb and no one gained anything valuable from it. our first event was at 1200 so we sit there and play with ourselves and burn up in the beautiful southern california sun (not to mention how completely cloudless the sky was).

our first event was inspection. which reminds me, airforce cant drill for crap so they bring a bunch of marine drill instructors up from SD, very intimidating. before we got on we heard our SSgt say that they had one entire squad crying from a JROTC unit. stupid high school kids... we fianlly get on and they just start yelling at us and w.e luckily we kicked ass and yelled really loud and knew a all our knowledge. the only issue was our M16A1's from fricking vietnam. first off we took them on a field exercise so they were dirty from that, but due to the oldness they had rust everywhere AND they sealed the bastards together so we cant take them apart to properly clean them. terrible deal. so that was shitty. but due to our loudness and intensity we gathered a whole crowd of people who watched in awe. Kornowski says i was 2nd loudest, only behind one of the girls who was shrieking the whole time, the DI's actually picked on her cuz they found it humorous that she was so damn high pitched. i got inspected twice, by one of the di's who finished with 2/3rd sqd early. luckily i only partially jacked up my 6th general order of the sentry.

Apparently our regulation was good, which is interesting b/c during practice we were always unaligned and such.

thats really it

the interesting part was our celebration. Most of the drill team came over and we had an awesome time. I skipped dinner to go get the party supplies. then decided while I waited for everyone to get here that I would fill up my stomach with some jack and coke instead of eating. needless to say i had a wonderful time. usually when we have kickbacks people throw cans and other random stuff into the pool next door. luckily last night we limited the beer cans, added a beer bottle, and then added a shopping cart a mop and a bucket!

everyone made it back safe and i woke up at 0900 and remained in my state of intoxication till around 1500. and now im having an awful time trying to do physics...

Welcome our Crazy World

http://vimeo.com/37293434

The resolution is that we should constructively engage with North Korea.

Oregon offers the plan of giving them food aid in exchange for the bodies of US soldiers in order to calm tensions between the US and the DPRK.

We run a "Kritik" of their argument saying that policy actions are flawed because it disrupts the natural cycle of the Tao which leads to violence.

SULE

Small Unit Leadership Exercises, something to that effect anyways.

well the point is we ran around campus today in our MARPATs with our pretty rifles and where shouting bang at the OPFOR.

Which was fine, in mid campus at 0600-0730. but as we ran around some more and people started showing up at work and showing up to class, we found ourselves up near North Campus, which anyone who took a tour of UCLA would know is the liberal hippie pot smoking artsy side of campus. so as we fire-team and buddy-rushed through their pretty sculpture garden we drew a lot of unfavorable-liberal eyes towards us.

one kid and his mother demanded from the Col. and the Major that they deliver to them authorization for our dangerous activity of running around with hunks of metal, without any munitions, magazines or even the ability to shoot, even if we had those materials (the M-16s had been disabled from the inside and sealed into one piece before command let a bunch of college kids play with them).

and one loyal boss bravely walked out of his building to confront the Col, Maj and SSgt and yelled at them and called this illegal and wrong and wanted to see authorization, i was hoping SSgt would deck him, but with the Col there things didnt get out of hand. im sure people called the cops, but luckily we called them first, as it is a requirement when we go out onto campus with rifles, so no one go hurt and...
wait, an army kid had to be ambulanced away because he was PTing and collapsed or something, SSgt didnt seem worried though after he had checked out the scene, so just another army kid faking an injury to get out of running all 2 miles of their loop...

Finals Week

O-Chem, Ecology, Environmental Studies.  Three hours each.  This will be fun.

Funny People

SSgt- I now wait in the wardroom for SSgt to walk in and then immediately bring up a controversial topic so he can talk about it. He will go on for hours if we let him. Recently he dissed the hell out of China and how they take care of their people, and said once he's President he will find everyone wearing communist shirts and put them in jail.

Physics Prof- is a strange strange man, who decided the last lecture shouldn't be about anything on the final. Instead he gave a lecture on what his mind thinks about when he is teaching us. He basically did a lecture on what one episode of Morgan Freeman's "Through the Wormhole" was about (the one about black holes). ANY WAYS, I took a nap but before that he mentioned nonchalantly that "given enough time, the center of the Milky Way would suck the galaxy up, including us, but we're not concerned about that now..." and proceed onto his other tangent...

James Kornowski is addicted to skyrim, he cant control himself so now I hit him every time i see him playing, and Amis turns of the Xbox whenever he is playing. It's sad every night watching him heat up his frozen dinner and eating it, he doesnt cook, and he feeds off of other people's stress, which isnt helpful when he is studying...This apartment is turning in to a cluster fuck due to our oldest roommates girl issues. girls who are involved in ROTC just like he and everyone else in the apartment is...

Responsibility

Clearly there has been a huge mistake because, propelled by the incredibly convincing words of my advisor, I somehow got myself put on the list of Bio 40 tutors and now I'm expected to help some poor kid get ready for his genetic translation test.  So, on top of preparing for my own ecology test, I have to relearn the lac and trp operons, genetic transfer between prokaryotes, and other stuff I haven't looked at in over six months.  Worst of all, I've lost all faith in the tutoring system because if they let someone like me teach then who knows what other maniacs and incompetents are posing as academic role models.

On a funnier note, our star running back, Luke Sweeney (read this LA Times article for more info http://articles.latimes.com/2011/oct/19/sports/la-sp-elliott-20111020), went to a Wiz Khalifa concert in LA with my friends Peter, Jordan, and Ari.  However, upon arrival he was already blackout and belligerently drunk and the bouncers wouldn't let him inside.  Stumped, the group went to find some food in the hope that Luke would sober up enough to get in.  But they got distracted waiting at a stoplight, and when it turned green Luke was gone, disappeared into the night.  They wandered around downtown LA for several hours looking everywhere for him.  They even called everyone back at school who had his number (including me) and asked us to call him to see if he would pick up for someone.  But he didn't, and the search went on without results until about 1:00 AM when Peter got a call from the hospital saying an ambulance had picked the missing football player up off the streets.  Worried, the three searchers rushed to the hospital where they found a disheveled but light spirited Luke.  According to him, he had successfully snuck into the concert, but was later kicked out by the same bouncer that wouldn't let him in initially.  Outside the venue, he once again began looking for a way in but got lost.  A while later, he found himself in a sketchy neighborhood and, nervous, started running in no particular direction and jumping fences and stuff.  Eventually he lay down in someone's front yard, and presumably someone called the cops and an ambulance was dispatched.  This story, although a little farfetched, was much more believable given Luke's condition.  He was still very drunk and, due to his clumsiness while climbing fences, gashed in his left arm and right leg.  On top of that, he was shirtless and his shorts had been torn down the middle such that his dick was hanging out, a fact he was very eager to pass out to every passing nurse and hospital visitor.  Eventually, his parents called to give the hospital permission to let their son go under Peter's care and someone found him some extra pants so the group drove back to school.  A great night had by all.

Debate Tournament

We flew up to stockton and went 5-1 in prelims and eventually lost to UCLA in Quarter Finals.

I will never forget the round I saw in Semi-Finals.

UCLA's captain (here is an article on him http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/headline-here-218270.aspx) has a hearing problem and has an incredibly difficult time hearing in general, let alone the fast speaking that is a norm in Debate. Here is an example of speed in a debate round http://vimeo.com/23771538.

His disability is well known across the entire debate community and the team he faced in semi-finals knew this and despite Nick's protest the other team basically spoke as fast as they could and sat down with time left to intentionally exclude him.
As expected, Nick gets up in the next speech and runs an argument called a Speed K, which is basically him saying why going fast on him in particular is exclusionary and oppressive and a reason for the other team should lose the round.
It turns, out that team prepared for that and in the next speech they responded with 8 minutes of a counter narrative saying that they are black and have ADHD and they don't want to make this a debate about who is more marginalized (but they run these arguments extremely quickly so Nick still cannot understand these arguments). It's like the team intentionally did this to exploit his disability.
After the round when Nick heard that UCLA won the round on a 2-1 despite the huge difference in speed, he cried. The judges were basically enraged at the fact that the other team intentionally tried to exclude. We were helping UCLA prepare for the final round and Nick was in no mood to debate, he wanted to concede the next round and turn it into a 45 minute discussion on speed in debate.
While they decided to debate and lost the final round it is one of the few times in my life where I have seen someone overcome something like that and still fight into the final round. It's a really awesome story, he was born with a with a hearing disability and has given his all to be extremely successful in an activity that place him at a huge structural disadvantage. Even when people intentionally try to exploit his disability he still is able overcome every speed bump in the way.

BEST NIGHT EVER

went to sports authority to get wrist bands to put our plays into them!

weston draw up some plays for 7 on 7 for offense, our defense seems solid but some help with that would be legit! thats your assignment.

btw one of the wrist bands is nike pink, for breast cancer. the little tab said "Dedicated to: " with space to write something. Wrote "2nd Base."

Then! went to "The little door"
http://www.thelittledoor.com/tldhome.html
Had reservations at 10, they were running late so told us "why dont you have a glass of wine at the wine bar while you wait?"
So we did. I chose some south african wine, damn good if i say so myself.

Then for dinner had some Italian Anna Maria. mindy drove home, all is well, she didnt kill anyone. she just cant navigate, even if she isnt driving so that was fun.

For dinner: Mindy: Apple duck ravioli, Trout (AHHMAZING!), and white chocolate and dark chocolate mousse.
Keenan: Salad arougulalala, with blue cheese and apple, nothing special, Chicken with polenta (not as good as mothers or italian but still good) and then delicious vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce and like cream puff dough on top and on bottom.

so with sports authority ($40) and dinner ($120) my stipend flew out the window in one night....

The perils facing a small school football team

After a slew of injuries against the nationally ranked Redlands Bulldogs the Pomona-Pitzer football team has been further reduced to 29 active players with 11 out because of injury.  Luckily we're playing the smallest Occidental team in many years with only 57 active players.  This is a big improvement over the 121 players on the Redlands roster.  As the most trustworthy corner left standing I have been moved from the weak side to the strong side to replace the injured second string strong side corner.  I haven't missed a snap in practice since last Wednesday and haven't missed a game snap since September 17th.  With 12 tackles I'm the fourth leading tackler on the team, something most corners couldn't (and wouldn't want to) say.  I only have a single pick though so I guess I have to step up my game this week.  That should be easy sense I have such fresh legs.

To finish things up on a politically correct note ...

Justing Meng (Middle Linebacker) to Coach E: "Hold on coach, I gotta look good so I practice good."
Coach E: "What are you, gay?  You better not be."

SOME BODY LOVES ME

WESTONS family sent me a care package full of candy and MAC and cheese and protein bars and jerky.

tho i must admit holding a billet for ROTC and taking LS2 Math 33A physics 17 and 4BL really makes working out not a priority, especially since its a goal to actually stay awake during lecture.

15 September 2011

Orientation Week

1st day
A lot of fricking admin, uniform issue and pointless drill. No guidance in the drill so we did mostly non-applicable shit.

2nd day
PT run briefs by XO CO and other random people that took foreverrrrrrrrr. in fact im still in the brief. headed to Pendelton and Trained them through yelling repetitive actions and holding uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. and giving them 1 min to change out of one uniform to the next. sick this day cuz freshmen and 4/C mids are fricking nasty and gross. probably got some weird fungus on me.

3rd day
Pistol shooting, i cant believe we give these unstable crazy ass irresponsible kids guns on their 3rd day. i shot too it was fun. headed to SD and made them scream knowledge the whole time. very boring. Conte was able to practice his intensity cuz he is too nice so i sat back and made suggestions and shouted occasionally. SD we had them do a SUB tour and Wet trainer, Squad Leaders knocked out for those 4 hours and then we went back to Pendelton and did more training. Squad Leaders got to Train them on our owns with shouting and more holding sea bags at shoulder height and making them do the same thing repeatedly but better and faster each time. 2 mids opened their MREs on the way back and used the Heaters (which produce CO gas) in the Van which had no windows open and the air was on circulate.... not good Lt Orozco (recently commissioned) was pissed. Each drive shot the shit with him and learned alot, funny stories difference between hazing and training and talking about other things equally awesome.

4th day
O-course-was good, midn were tired and it wasnt their first time so they didnt do that great. Squad leaders instructed to do it after they got their gear back on, Matulionis and I flew threw, other 4 still at first obstacle by the time we ran back to the start. great leadership by example...
Leadership Reaction Course-a lot of Training. Made them pick up ammo cans repeatedly and run about 50-75 yards through sand a lot. twas a good time, voice gone even more by this point.
Infiltration course-no tactics at all, grouped shoulder to shoulder loud noises good intensity but if they assaulted a bunker like that they would all be dead with one burst from the machine gun.

Overall- I was sick, tired the whole time, stood up and didnt eat or drink around the Midn so was dehydrated and hungry the whole week. I thought going thru O-week was "tough" but incredibly fun. this was fun but incredibly tough because taking care of 5 people (2 dropped within the first 2 days) was tiring, you screamed more at them than they had to respond to you, you had to be awake longer, think more instead of just do what you were told and we were running around as much as the mids and did the O-course with them and PTed with them. I smoked my squad which was funny made them do high knees until the last one caught up.

quotes:"Life isnt so bad here, you dont have fricking IEDs blowing up in the fucking bushes on your way to class"

"dont fucking do something stupid like try and hook up with some chick you found online, drive to some place in the fucking middle of no where by yourself and then have some dude in a spiderman costume rape you."

"Dont do any thing stupid like punch one them in the face if youre angry, and no funny shit like getting them all naked and putting them in the showers together."

"Dont lock them in the footlockers or steal their shit. And dont fuck with their uniforms and cut off the buttons or some shit like that"

-"Deep throat the banana, Deep throat the banana, Deep throat the banana!" (quote by DI at OCS this year according to recent OCS graduate)

Ms. Sepulveda some how got to Ms. Sepulvader.

my squad was cool, very locked on and all knew their knowledge and it was no fun fucking with them. conte was angry at his squad cuz they didnt know crap. didnt know my knowledge, used my squad to study by asking them questions and remembering what they said. ha. slacking off ftw.

10 June 2011

tonight

was long.
went to gushi korean bbq and got korean style ramen, i got beef in it mindy got it with egg. it was good, but i make ramen better ^^

then drove east towards downtown LA for some famous place called scoops. severely overrated, got the peanut butter ice cream, but i think the gelato and the ice cream at the campus restaurants are just as good if not better. then mindy and I drove to some hill where we could see dodger stadium on one side and the LA skyline (as small as it is) on the other. good view and found a kickass radio station where, for tonight at least they basically had a marathon of songs like "take my breath away" "dont wanna miss a thing" and "Coming in the air tonight." Really cheese 90s love songs. loveeeeed it.

05 June 2011

Pomona Quotes

I though we were supposed to be super liberal and tolerant.

Sean: Hey Mike, why are your fingernails painted?

Mike: It's for a psych project, we're supposed to paint our nails and then see if people react tolerantly or intolerantly and write a report about it.

Sean: Well you look like a gay.

Mike: Thanks man, you just gave me a great quote for my paper.

Things going on with people involved with ROTC

One of the Sgts just got promoted to SSGT! and on top of that his girlfriend (an OC in the unit) is 15 weeks along and they recently announced it to the unit!

and our AMOI loves to walk into the ward room complaining about us and the battalion staff and how we students arent dedicated enough and how he hopes we all die. and he actually screams this and we all laugh and have a good time trying to figure out why hes so upset about how we arent run like an infantry battalion. he says he hates his job and the incompetence of the midshipmen battalion staff (which i am not a part of as of now)

The ER

is very slow. I took a friend of mine there last night and we sat around and did nothing from 9:30 PM to 2:00 AM. And after all that it turned out she just had a serious shin contusion, not even a broken leg. Anyway, the worst part was that the hospital only let one person go with the injured person so being a nice guy I volunteered (and to preempt any of you speculating about anything [especially you, mom] she's a good friend who has a boyfriend who's a friend of mine so I wasn't back there for any reason other than friendship). Meanwhile, my friend Alex and Charlotte's (the injured girl) friends Emma and Nikki (who are single) sat in the waiting room and did homework, chatted, Sporcled, and basically just hung out and had a good time while I stood in cold rooms or sat in tiny plastic chairs for hours on end keeping Charlotte company. What was my reward you might ask? While I was back there wheeling Charlotte around in her wheel chair, carrying her crutches, and generally being ignored, another of Charlottes friends came by and dropped of some In-N-Out. Alex, Emma and Nikki of course, being the great friends they are, promptly ate all of it leaving me and Charlotte some delicious paper bags. Eventually, I got home and had to do a bunch of homework and ended up going to sleep at 5:00 and waking up at 8:00 to help a friend in need with his Spanish essay and register for classes. I then skipped breakfast so I could make it to my Econ class on time and then accidentally slept through lunch and well into my chemistry lab, meaning I didn't eat anything from Wednesday dinner to Thursday dinner. And Alex's excuse for not saving me a single french fry: "You were gone for so long ... we kinda forgot about you."

In summary:
What I sacrificed:
- My Wednesday night
- Sleep
- Food
- Chatting up the ladies
- My lab grade
- Sporcle (don't underestimate the value of this one)

What I got:
- A stronger friendship with a girl I will probably rarely see after this year
- ...

Moral of the story: being a good Samaritan sucks.

Me and myself

and I

are having issues. Today my ROTC buddy brenda claimed to have been talking with her sorority sisters about "hot" ROTC guys. Apparently I am on that list and when brenda started describing me her sisters apparently recognized the description and unanimously agreed that I was in fact "hot".

this is an issue. because now i feel obligated to look good, otherwise i will be an even BIGGER disappointment. so wearing nice clothes, not sweating in the LA heat and wearing my brief case properly were all on my mind today as i wandered from class to class. this is really stressing me out, i know many of you will not understand (not to name names but weston), but it is an issue i needed to discuss.

in other news aside from my well deserved large ego include me going to a veterans bingo night to help old veterans play bingo. and apparently i just dont like lab write ups because i had this issue with AP chem and im having the same issue in my Physics lab. shit just aint fly, especially calculating all the error, which i did one calculation on my last report, out of 6.

and yes i turned that bad boy in

Spring ball has begun!

Basically we're starting over on defense with three new coaches and a whole new scheme so basically starting at square one again. But the new coaches seem a little more competant so it should be good in the long run. Still, practices three times a week for two hours on top of the five days a week of workouts... not the best in the middle of spring.

People and elevators...

I hate it when people crowd the elevators trying to get in while people are trying to get out. annoying. and stupid.
and to compound their stupidity: when on a floor above 1. idiots going down dont look at the lights indicating the direction the elevator is going on and get on the elevator going up as im trying to get out and i laugh as they travel the wrong way.

we had our DADT brief today. that put me to sleep. also fell asleep during physics. again, although my physics buddy was in the process of falling asleep as well when the teacher made a fun little joke about me.

Doing online HW

B. Mario, ti piace? Your new friend Mario likes some aspects of American culture, but not others. Read the list of the things he likes and doesn’t like, then decide what he would say based on his list.

Mi piace il fast food. Mi piace la musica rock, ma (but) non mi piace la musica country. Mi piace Lebron James. Non mi piace il cinema dell’orrore (horror).

My good friend Mario has lots to say about AMERICA! QUE FANTASTICO!

on the list of things he likes or doenst like, DAVE MATTHEWS was included. what a star.
also Shania Twain, im just going to assume he (or she) is a country singer...

My first Italian class

It's in a little shit classroom in the basement of HAINES. smells like piss and mold. also the class is full of weirdos.
the best part?

its a little old asian lady teaching the class.

i swear to god i was speaking spanish this first class...everything sounds the same to my tired old ear...

now that we are on the subject of using politically incorrect terms one certain SSGT claims that with the appeal of DADT now it is okay to say "stop being a gay, you faggot!" what an optimistic conservative.

in other news my girlfriend was given the key to my dorm as i went to class so she could enter it to get her study materials and then enter the lounge to study. apparently she decided to bail on me so i have no way into my room....chicks.

Funny Joke!

The FBI, the CIA, and the LAPD are all arguing about who is the best at apprehending criminals, so they devise a test: they release a rabbit into a forest, and whoever can catch it the quickest wins.

The CIA goes in. They place animal informants throughout the forest. They question all plant and mineral witnesses. After three months of extensive investigations they conclude that rabbits do not exist.

The FBI goes in. After two weeks with no leads they burn down the forest, killing everything in it, including the rabbit. They make no apologies. The rabbit had it coming.

A new rabbit and forest are procured, and the LAPD goes in. They come out two hours later with a badly beaten bear, who is yelling: "Okay! Okay! I'm a rabbit! I'm a rabbit!

Pauley Pavilion

Went to the very last game in Pauley Pavilion as we know it (it is being renovated)

Got free access to the game by volunteering with ROTC to pass goody bags out to fans as they entered. Got free seats near the student section and also got to chill on the floor level for a bit near one of the corners of the court and watch big tall people put a ball in a hoop repeatedly.

Left with 3.5 min to go in the game cuz mindy and i were hungry and we were ahead anywhere from 10-15 pts. woo hoo i havent actually found out if we beat U of A tho... so some one update me!

21 February 2011

Also

where are those darn kids nick and ryan? scoundrels I say

History update

15-20 page original reseach paper for history. Yay, primary sources are fun!!! :D

20 February 2011

FEX

in other words, field exercise.

rain and mud and really slippery metal bars made the whole day tiring. woke up at 0400 and got to sleep around 2200.

basically we ran around the whole day with M16's and our 45 lbs packs. the mud was a lot more tiring than i thought weight down my boots by a good 5 lbs each. but luckily we hit pavement and gravel for the majority of the 8 mile hike. i actually wish we hit the mud more because i know i wouldnt have fallen out and would have enjoyed to see more USC kids fall out (this fex was for the UCLA and USC battalion). in my squad i was the very point man so on our fire team and squad patrolling drill i got to pretend i was searching for bad people. also i was road guard so every time we hit a road i had to run ahead and stand there and pray a car wouldnt hit me, or the platoon. that was really lame but it let me do something interesting cuz our pace was really slow, 3-4 mi/hr compared to our thursday hikes of 5 mi/hr.

i ate about 4500 calories, not including dinner, it was insane and the warm domino's pizza we had after the hike and MRE's and while it was raining was the best pizza ive tasted cuz i was so cold.

at night i had a weird dream, and basically it ended up with my trying to strangle some one in my dream, but that kind of turned into me "attacking" mindy in the middle of the night but luckily i was fully awake before my hands could fully get on her and do any damage so we were both scared shitless...hmmm i have lots of dreams when im dead tired, if you ever end up sleeping next to me when im exhausted be warned, you might be strangled, or worse...

17 February 2011

imagine the cutest most innocent little girls voice ever:

"Sir, are you in the army?"

imagine me with most bewildered and disgusted look on my face.

15 February 2011

enough of these ROTC quotes

how bout some pomona ones?

Just before yeast culture lab ...

Bio professor: "Yeast, being simple Eukaryotes, are extemely useful in the lab. What do we use yeast for?"

Most of class: quiet mumbling about isolating mutations and other genetics stuff.

Pause.

Creepy but awesome guy in the back: "Beer!"

to kornawski from SSGT

youre just that guy arent you...
you know what, im surprised you survived fucking childhood.

03 February 2011

why am i at a liberal arts college?

hardest class of the semester by far: Environmental History of North Africa and the Middle East

over the course of the past 2 weeks i have spent over 20 hours reading over 500 pages of "environmental" history, which is really just history except they emphasize water management and throw in words like "Islamic Green-Revolution" and "imperialistic deforestation." stupid breadth requirements

02 February 2011

humping it

that means going on a hike

butts to nuts
that means get really close and cuddly in a column while we are stopped. i dont know why tho...

and after our hike last thursday we were given conflicting instructions to
1) cut all the dead skin off the blister and apply mole-skin
2) leave it alone as long as possible because the more it hurts the more it will help later on

01 February 2011

What i learned today:

My "Origins of Christianity, Judaism and Islam" teacher knows me as the "Well Dressed Man." I would like to thank my dashing looks and naturally dapper style. however i shouldnt forget to give credit for the small contribution that ROTC makes for requiring us to wear our uniforms every tuesday.

Also i learned marines lie to their CO's when deployed saying stuff like "OH yeah we got it, its all taken care of" and "Roger that, sir, wont happen again."

Alright time for some "Gay-ass story time"
apparently the Geneva convention says no mines/ordnance that is detonated without some one actually being there to press a trigger, ie. pressure/trip wire mines are out the window. lame.
well whats a fire team of 4 scout snipers gonna do when they raid a house and set up shop for a few days?
rig their detonators to allow for pressure release or pressure detonation of claymores so they can cover their asses as they watch from the stories above.
well suppose that this is all fine and dandy cuz one of the guys is running around telling his chain of command of all the cool stuff he did. just fyi they zip tie all the doors and windows, and keep the family upstairs locked in a bathroom. long story short, anyone snooping around is not supposed to be there, so the mines are perfectly safe (ha.).
until one night they take over a building under construction without any doors to seal off...
well one thing leads to another and the claymores are set up without any type of warning off system (for example a similar rigging but with a flare pointed upwards outside the door).
and soon after a loud, like really loud boom happens...apparently wild dogs made their way in and set off the 2 claymores set up guarding the stairs.
the scout snipers' base starts radioing them thinking they are getting hit by everything bad in the area and is about to scramble the every asset they have, but luckily things were clarified. except that once a higher authority heard what happened the big "WHAT?" question was asked about the claymores.
all of the sudden the COs of the company and battalion had no idea about the claymores... so orders were given to cut that action out.
this is where the "Roger that, sir" (its not your ass on the line) ;) come in.
