Orientation Week

1st day
A lot of fricking admin, uniform issue and pointless drill. No guidance in the drill so we did mostly non-applicable shit.

2nd day
PT run briefs by XO CO and other random people that took foreverrrrrrrrr. in fact im still in the brief. headed to Pendelton and Trained them through yelling repetitive actions and holding uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. and giving them 1 min to change out of one uniform to the next. sick this day cuz freshmen and 4/C mids are fricking nasty and gross. probably got some weird fungus on me.

3rd day
Pistol shooting, i cant believe we give these unstable crazy ass irresponsible kids guns on their 3rd day. i shot too it was fun. headed to SD and made them scream knowledge the whole time. very boring. Conte was able to practice his intensity cuz he is too nice so i sat back and made suggestions and shouted occasionally. SD we had them do a SUB tour and Wet trainer, Squad Leaders knocked out for those 4 hours and then we went back to Pendelton and did more training. Squad Leaders got to Train them on our owns with shouting and more holding sea bags at shoulder height and making them do the same thing repeatedly but better and faster each time. 2 mids opened their MREs on the way back and used the Heaters (which produce CO gas) in the Van which had no windows open and the air was on circulate.... not good Lt Orozco (recently commissioned) was pissed. Each drive shot the shit with him and learned alot, funny stories difference between hazing and training and talking about other things equally awesome.

4th day
O-course-was good, midn were tired and it wasnt their first time so they didnt do that great. Squad leaders instructed to do it after they got their gear back on, Matulionis and I flew threw, other 4 still at first obstacle by the time we ran back to the start. great leadership by example...
Leadership Reaction Course-a lot of Training. Made them pick up ammo cans repeatedly and run about 50-75 yards through sand a lot. twas a good time, voice gone even more by this point.
Infiltration course-no tactics at all, grouped shoulder to shoulder loud noises good intensity but if they assaulted a bunker like that they would all be dead with one burst from the machine gun.

Overall- I was sick, tired the whole time, stood up and didnt eat or drink around the Midn so was dehydrated and hungry the whole week. I thought going thru O-week was "tough" but incredibly fun. this was fun but incredibly tough because taking care of 5 people (2 dropped within the first 2 days) was tiring, you screamed more at them than they had to respond to you, you had to be awake longer, think more instead of just do what you were told and we were running around as much as the mids and did the O-course with them and PTed with them. I smoked my squad which was funny made them do high knees until the last one caught up.

quotes:"Life isnt so bad here, you dont have fricking IEDs blowing up in the fucking bushes on your way to class"

"dont fucking do something stupid like try and hook up with some chick you found online, drive to some place in the fucking middle of no where by yourself and then have some dude in a spiderman costume rape you."

"Dont do any thing stupid like punch one them in the face if youre angry, and no funny shit like getting them all naked and putting them in the showers together."

"Dont lock them in the footlockers or steal their shit. And dont fuck with their uniforms and cut off the buttons or some shit like that"

-"Deep throat the banana, Deep throat the banana, Deep throat the banana!" (quote by DI at OCS this year according to recent OCS graduate)

Ms. Sepulveda some how got to Ms. Sepulvader.

my squad was cool, very locked on and all knew their knowledge and it was no fun fucking with them. conte was angry at his squad cuz they didnt know crap. didnt know my knowledge, used my squad to study by asking them questions and remembering what they said. ha. slacking off ftw.

tired. inspection tomorrow. cant think straight. cant remember anything more.

First Day of Classes

tonight

was long.
went to gushi korean bbq and got korean style ramen, i got beef in it mindy got it with egg. it was good, but i make ramen better ^^

then drove east towards downtown LA for some famous place called scoops. severely overrated, got the peanut butter ice cream, but i think the gelato and the ice cream at the campus restaurants are just as good if not better. then mindy and I drove to some hill where we could see dodger stadium on one side and the LA skyline (as small as it is) on the other. good view and found a kickass radio station where, for tonight at least they basically had a marathon of songs like "take my breath away" "dont wanna miss a thing" and "Coming in the air tonight." Really cheese 90s love songs. loveeeeed it.

05 June 2011

Next Year

Definitely going to be Drill Team XO. for CO they picked Ms. Monroe who has more experience with drill and color guard and is a year older than I.
and word has it i will also be squad leader, this is sweet cuz i get to constantly haze the freshmen next year during O-Week.

Pomona Quotes

I though we were supposed to be super liberal and tolerant.

Sean: Hey Mike, why are your fingernails painted?

Mike: It's for a psych project, we're supposed to paint our nails and then see if people react tolerantly or intolerantly and write a report about it.

Sean: Well you look like a gay.

Mike: Thanks man, you just gave me a great quote for my paper.

Things going on with people involved with ROTC

One of the Sgts just got promoted to SSGT! and on top of that his girlfriend (an OC in the unit) is 15 weeks along and they recently announced it to the unit!

and our AMOI loves to walk into the ward room complaining about us and the battalion staff and how we students arent dedicated enough and how he hopes we all die. and he actually screams this and we all laugh and have a good time trying to figure out why hes so upset about how we arent run like an infantry battalion. he says he hates his job and the incompetence of the midshipmen battalion staff (which i am not a part of as of now)

The ER

is very slow. I took a friend of mine there last night and we sat around and did nothing from 9:30 PM to 2:00 AM. And after all that it turned out she just had a serious shin contusion, not even a broken leg. Anyway, the worst part was that the hospital only let one person go with the injured person so being a nice guy I volunteered (and to preempt any of you speculating about anything [especially you, mom] she's a good friend who has a boyfriend who's a friend of mine so I wasn't back there for any reason other than friendship). Meanwhile, my friend Alex and Charlotte's (the injured girl) friends Emma and Nikki (who are single) sat in the waiting room and did homework, chatted, Sporcled, and basically just hung out and had a good time while I stood in cold rooms or sat in tiny plastic chairs for hours on end keeping Charlotte company. What was my reward you might ask? While I was back there wheeling Charlotte around in her wheel chair, carrying her crutches, and generally being ignored, another of Charlottes friends came by and dropped of some In-N-Out. Alex, Emma and Nikki of course, being the great friends they are, promptly ate all of it leaving me and Charlotte some delicious paper bags. Eventually, I got home and had to do a bunch of homework and ended up going to sleep at 5:00 and waking up at 8:00 to help a friend in need with his Spanish essay and register for classes. I then skipped breakfast so I could make it to my Econ class on time and then accidentally slept through lunch and well into my chemistry lab, meaning I didn't eat anything from Wednesday dinner to Thursday dinner. And Alex's excuse for not saving me a single french fry: "You were gone for so long ... we kinda forgot about you."

In summary:
What I sacrificed:
- My Wednesday night
- Sleep
- Food
- Chatting up the ladies
- My lab grade
- Sporcle (don't underestimate the value of this one)

What I got:
- A stronger friendship with a girl I will probably rarely see after this year
- ...

Moral of the story: being a good Samaritan sucks.

Me and myself

and I

are having issues. Today my ROTC buddy brenda claimed to have been talking with her sorority sisters about "hot" ROTC guys. Apparently I am on that list and when brenda started describing me her sisters apparently recognized the description and unanimously agreed that I was in fact "hot".

this is an issue. because now i feel obligated to look good, otherwise i will be an even BIGGER disappointment. so wearing nice clothes, not sweating in the LA heat and wearing my brief case properly were all on my mind today as i wandered from class to class. this is really stressing me out, i know many of you will not understand (not to name names but weston), but it is an issue i needed to discuss.

in other news aside from my well deserved large ego include me going to a veterans bingo night to help old veterans play bingo. and apparently i just dont like lab write ups because i had this issue with AP chem and im having the same issue in my Physics lab. shit just aint fly, especially calculating all the error, which i did one calculation on my last report, out of 6.

and yes i turned that bad boy in

2) Mass Effect 3

but really, Mass Effect and Skyrim are equal-one my character is saved and ready to save the universe, the other is a completely new adventure and character that will slay dragons and possibly cover the world in darkness.
